Tuesday Night :

Our Tuesday night Meal and Bible Study starts at 6:00pm with a meal, followed by a time of Worship, telling of a Bible story, and separate men’s and women’s group discussions of the story. We’re currently working our way through stories from the Old Testament.

4/1/25 We’ll discuss the story of the worship of Baal from Numbers 25:1-18.

The Scripture passage below is the text we’ll examine for this Sunday’s sermon.

This week (4/6/25) we continue our series in the Gospel of Matthew. Our passage is Matthew 9:35-10:4 (Christian Standard Bible.)

THE LORD OF THE HARVEST

35 Jesus continued going around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness., 36 When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.”

COMMISSIONING THE TWELVE

10 Summoning his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every disease and sickness., These are the names of the twelve apostles: First, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

Our Vision

Mustard Tree Baptist Church is a collaborative effort between Minnesota and Mississippi Baptists to plant a Southern Baptist church in Duluth.

Our vision is to:

1) Glorify God: in obedience and worship.

2) Go: with the love of Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

3) Grow: in faith, knowledge, and the fruit of the Spirit.

If you’re interested in becoming a part of this new church plant or if you just have questions we’d love to hear from you.

Two-Year Bible Reading Plan

We’re following a two-year Bible reading plan that includes a passage from the Old Testament, New Testament, and the Gospels every day.

The advantages of following this Bible reading plan together include:

  • Reading the entire Bible in a logical manner over the course of two years

  • Slower pace allows more time for daily reflection on God’s Word

  • Able to encourage each other to stick with the plan

  • Improved spiritual conversations amongst those following the plan

Meet the Pastor

Mark Finnila grew up in the Duluth area, graduated from UMD, did a 22-year career as an HH-3E helicopter and C-130E pilot in the Air Force, completed an MDiv through Liberty University, was ordained in 2007, served as an associate pastor twice, and began pastoring Mustard Tree in 2022.

Mary Finnila grew up in the Chicago area, used to write code for legacy main frame computers, and is likely the friendly face you’ll see in the reception area.

Mark and Mary are both widowed and have six children and seven grandchildren between them. They both enjoy fishing and Mary claims the title “Fish Winner!”
