11/19/2024 Men will discuss The Temptation and the Fall from Genesis 3:1-24.

Women will continue to discuss Rahab from Joshua chapters 2-6.

The Scripture passage below is the text we’ll examine for this Sunday’s sermon.

This week (11/17/24) we’ll continue our series in the Gospel of Matthew with the story of John the Baptist from Matthew 3:1-12 (CSB.)

THE HERALD OF THE MESSIAH

In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near!” For he is the one spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, who said:

A voice of one crying out in the wilderness:

Prepare the way for the Lord;

make his paths straight!,

Now John had a camel-hair garment with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then people from Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the vicinity of the Jordan were going out to him, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance. And don’t presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 “I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove his sandals. He himself will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn. But the chaff he will burn with fire that never goes out.”

Our Vision

Mustard Tree Baptist Church is a collaborative effort between Minnesota and Mississippi Baptists to plant a Southern Baptist church in Duluth.

Our vision is to:

1) Glorify God: in obedience and worship.

2) Go: with the love of Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

3) Grow: in faith, knowledge, and the fruit of the Spirit.

If you’re interested in becoming a part of this new church plant or if you just have questions we’d love to hear from you.

Two-Year Bible Reading Plan

We’re following a two-year Bible reading plan that includes a passage from the Old Testament, New Testament, and the Gospels every day.

The advantages of following this Bible reading plan together include:

  • Reading the entire Bible in a logical manner over the course of two years

  • Slower pace allows more time for daily reflection on God’s Word

  • Able to encourage each other to stick with the plan

  • Improved spiritual conversations amongst those following the plan

Below are the Bible readings for the week of November 17-23, 2024. This is Week 3.
